Are you new to town? Are you frantically searching for things to do on your Friday evenings? Well, the search ends here. Streetmosphere enters its fifth weekend this coming weekend, and things are heating up.
Last Friday, artists and musicians alike performed under the blazing sun. The Steve Johnson Group played outside Ingredient for a steady stream of adoring fans. The quartet, headed by pianist, guitarist, and vocalist, Steve Johnson, also included Pat Moorhead on bass, Mark Manges on trumpet and flugelhorn, and James Richards on drums. The group performed vocal jazz as well as classic pop songs, and people sang along to the words as they sat on the benches to watch.
The Steve Johnson Group had a special attraction to newcomers of Fort Collins. One onlooker recently moved to town from Laramie, Wyo. and said he couldn’t be happier with this decision. He said that programs like Streetmosphere don’t exist in Laramie—artists and musicians don’t like to challenge the wind up north, so no one performs outdoors—and that this lack of public artistic expression is what prompted him to pack up and move to Fort Collins in the first place. He listened to and enjoyed the music of the Steve Johnson Group for quite some time before wandering off to explore and discover more about his new hometown.
The Streetmosphere team couldn’t agree more with that resident—we are so lucky to live in such a fantastic city and to have the opportunity to create art in Old Town. Check our online schedule and plan ahead so that you too can enjoy the magic of Fort Collins on a warm Friday evening—or any other day of the weekend!
